About Us

Welcome to the Moo Balm family, Baun Sr., Baun Jr., Kate, and baby Jacob! Like so many families, we've been through a lot over the years, and our journey has been a unique one.

It all started when Baun left California and made his way east to Utah. Faced with the high cost of living, Baun realized that the life he had always dreamed of wasn’t possible in California, so he moved to Utah where other family members lived. It was there, on her very first night in Utah, that Baun met Kate. Kate had moved from Michigan, following her love of music, and after years of working for non-profits, she found a fulfilling career with a large orchestra. There was an immediate connection between them, and a few years later, they were married with Baun Jr. on the way.

Shortly after welcoming their first child, Baun received a job offer that took the family to Fort Collins, Colorado. As they settled into their new life, both Baun and Kate developed a strong desire to simplify and live more intentionally. Like many people, they turned to the internet to explore ways to return to the basics and be more mindful about the products they used and consumed.

About a year after moving to Fort Collins, they discovered a local butcher who provided them with an abundance of beef fat. With a freezer full of fat and not wanting to waste it, Kate and Baun decided to look for ways to make use of it. What started as a simple search quickly led Baun down a fascinating rabbit hole. He learned about the incredible health benefits of using grass-fed beef tallow, which opened their eyes to its potential in skincare. From there, they explored making balms, lotions, soaps, and other products, all using this amazing, natural ingredient.

As Baun Jr. experienced relief from his sensitive skin thanks to the tallow-based products, Baun and Kate felt compelled to share this discovery with others. And so, Moo Balm was born—a brand dedicated to offering natural, effective skincare products rooted in the healing power of grass-fed beef tallow.

In time, though, Baun and Kate felt a pull to return to Utah, where it all began. After years of living in Colorado, the couple decided to move back to Utah, bringing their growing family and Moo Balm with them. The decision felt full circle—back to the place where their story started, with a deeper understanding of what truly matters in life. The return to Utah has allowed them to reconnect with family, friends, and the community that played such a pivotal role in their journey. And now, as they continue to share their passion for tallow-based skincare, they're even more inspired by the beauty of their surroundings and the roots they've planted in this special place.
